Today, between AI, Evans, Henriksen, Jazzkat and Mambo there many good sounding, lightweight, reliable amps to choose from.
Also add Quilter to that list of lightweight, high headroom amps to choose from.

I received my replacement H 112ER. Right out of the box I was able to detect the improvements. With the previous model I found that switching the tweeter off produced the best tone for my Archtop. With this amp, I feel that engaging the tweeter adds beautiful sparkle in the higher registers without sacrificing any of the low end. I even found an improvement with the tweeter tone knob turned all of the way down over having the tweeter turned off alltoghether. I emailed Peter my impressions and am copying part of his response below.

The change you're hearing is in what we use to deliver sound to the tweeter. We used to just build in a capacitor/resistor filter to the tweeter in parallel with the speaker, and it was very much on the subtle side because we didn't want the APT50 tweeter to become overbearing or harsh. A year or so ago we realized that since we switched to the ASD1001 tweeter, we had better options available to us and so we began using a more traditional style crossover with a different frequency value, a higher quality capacitor and an inductor, and it really brings out more of those high frequencies while keeping the tweeter response smooth and controlled.

Interesting....I don't understand what you mean by the "the tweeter tone knob". Are you referring to the switch in the back activating the tweeter, or is it a separate knob for the tweeter? Or is it just the 10KHZ knob of the amp's eq?

Sorry about that, I was attempting to describe the 10KHZ knob. To my ear that knob is specific to the tweeter. Thanks for helping me clarify.

Hello guys, I'm new in this forum.
I've read many 3d and learned really much.
    Thanks.

I play Gb10 and CS336. (I also own a strotacaster and my father's hand made Piretti 1956, Bologna)
I'm going to buy Mambo 12" combo, 18sound speaker, wedge.

My choice comes from market research and after listenig demos on youtube.
I could't test live the different products.
I love jazz tone, but little bit brighter than tradition.
Smooth jazz tone is nice for me.
Listening Matt Otten playing a ZT Club, I thougt to have found out what I want.
    But that ampli is discontinued.
I need power (over 150w) and dependability, under 12-13Kg, under 1000 euro.

I like the Mambo tone, as I heard on video (not many available), more than Henriksen 112 R or Polytone mini brute II. Quilter micro pro mach 2 12" is to "omni" for my taste.
I don't really like Roland cube 80 gx or Artist (better than gx, but too heavy).

Someone might let me know about rapport Mambo/smooth jazz tone?
What the difference tone between cube and wedge (cabin volume is the same?)
Better cabin (I mean combo) close or open?

    Thanks
    Valentino
