You can't just have one pickup, can you?
The SD Seth Lover or any other good quality PAF is wonderful.
I like Fralin P92s because of the lack of hum with a definite single coil clarity.
The Heritage Floating #3 is generally held in low regard but really has a nice sound. I know the guy who winds them. Space constraints forced him to keep it "underwound". This gives it a very articulate scooped sound. You can dial in more midrange if desired.
I'm waiting for my pickguard to come back with a Kent Armstrong single coil. I've heard good things about that.
The Zoller is a great low output pup. The SD Benedetto has more midrange and is a keeper.
I have some fondness for the Lollartron but not that much for a full archtop. I could never bond with the Heritage HRW. It sounds too much like the Lollartron.
I had one guitar with Bill Lawrence L500s. They seemed a bit stark but were still very usable.
Fortunately, you can get a lot of tone shaping with your amp, so personally I don't get too concerned about the nuances of pickups. I break them down into single coil or humbuckers sounds and want some of both groups.

Jane, you ignorant slut:
There is only one finest pickup - the Dimarzio X2N.
All bow down before the mighty X2N.
All hail the mighty X2N.
The X2N rewlz.
Bwahahahahahaha!

For humbuckers the Seth Lovers is my favorite.
For single coils give me the D'Armond Rhythm Chief, or the Franz pup used on early Guild guitars. I have heard great things about the CC pickup, but unfortunately I do not have any personal experience with them.
