This guitar amazed me. To the point that I had to buy it.

It's the brand new Gibson ES Les Paul. I cannot say enough good about it. From setup to sound to attention to detail, it's like no brand new Gibson I have ever played.

I urge EVERYONE to go play one:

Coming late to the thread I got this recently Victor Baker Model 14, it's a semi (a block under the bridge) but the sound is very acoustic with the Armstrong PUPs.

My Carvin SH550 next to my 335. I've got T-I Jazz Swing 10s on the 550 (11s on the 335). The SH550 is not a jazz guitar. It has a carved maple top and the stock S22 pickups are brighter, have better definition, and are better balanced than the 57 classics on the 335 (though I've heard 'thinner' and 'lifeless' from others, even though the S22s have higher output). Plus, when the coils are split, it has a more of a P-90 sound than a typical single coil. The 550 it has a voice of its own, and I like the tones I can get out of it for most genres, including jazz.

didn't hate the ones i've played but they seemed a little neither/nor-ish to me. they are their own thing, yet not exactly different enough from what i already have and not similar enough to what i want them to be. i suppose their biggest advantages would be size, weight and the ease of playing and amplification.

Just played a new all White PRS SC Hollow Body w/ maple top and back. Would love to buy it and call it a day, but at 4k discounted a little rich for me.

Oh man I love that Victor Baker 14 posted earlier in the thread.

I get what I need for jazz tone out of an Ibanez 335-alike strung with 12s. Not really going for old school box tones.

My Seventy Seven Stork Jazz model is a great guitar for Jazz. Its got an ALNICO V StapleTop pickup in the neck position now but the stock P90 is a great pickup too. The build quality is as good as any high end guitar Ive ever owned and it plays effortlessly. Bob

Another Carvin SH550/Gibson ES-335 owner here. The Carvin has a Bigsby and Seymour Duncan Antiquity II Jazzmaster single-coils; the 335 is standard. I thought I'd never find a guitar I liked better than the 335, but the SH550 is it. It's about halfway between a Les Paul and a 335, and lighter than either one, and the single-coils give it a snappy sound when I need it. Paired with my DRRI head into a Weber California Ceramic 15, it sings.
