2born,
That site with the Yunzhi products, I had a bit of trouble navigating it,
but didn't investigate packing...I was more interested in availability of a case.
Conductivity on my land lines here is below par, so I searched only as far
as I needed to at the time.
They sent me a photo of the case, and I thought all was okay.
I trust the instrument will get here all right after all.

The instrument I got directly from Yunzhi (my 2nd Yunzhi) was in a case, and it looks like they have a machine that injection molds styrofoam around the case. And then on top of that it's wrapped in this wide tape. It's a real son of a b*tch to get opened.
I think the fellas and me are saying you had a problem and it got resolved but you posted like it wasn't being taken care of (though it was). Believe me I know a lot of guys that have custom ordered gutiars from Gibson, Heritage or big name builders - there is almost ALWAYS some little hiccup - it's just the nature of the process. Believe me once you get the guitar, get a tech there to do a really good setup and replace the electronics you're gonna be in love for life. When you let your friends try it out and then you tell them how little you paid for it they'll be in awe, just like many of us are...
It just requires a little patience and your reward for that patience is a top flight guitar you'll love playing.

Big Mike,
Just by the look of it in the photos, I think it will be a good guitar.
My original point in posting was as I described it, a "heads up" on the case issue.
After I had been tolerant about scale length limits and headstock design glitches,
getting the offhand proposal to send it without a case not only surprised me,
IT DID NOT MAKE MY DAY. Especially after they delayed and fiddled around several
days, before admitting they (apparently) had no case to fit. That was revealed
when, after several days, the tracking number showed nothing.
And besides, I was thinking of another forum user (I forget the name) who is having
that Super 400 style made, a 3.5-inch deep body. If mine was "too high", what's he in
for with that one? And anyone else who contemplates the 18" body, especially deep ones.
That's who the heads-up was for.
But really, the point of this is about a case, not the guitar! (Thank Christ.)
I will give it to Cargill the Younger, probably, re electronics. Ever heard of
Peterman transducers? Bulky but awesome. I want to figure a way to add them.
But, enough before I start raving.
I have a notion to later on send them a few pics when I'm playing the guitar
in the 17-piece, just for fun. Maybe they'd like that.
I suppose you've probably seen case pics like these before, but for anyone who's
curious, here's the photos they sent me.
And, thanks once again for intervening on my behalf.

Now *that* is a cool case.

2born,
Those pics match the description of what Big Mike was describing with text.
As I said to him, I was impressed.
Did you say in another thread, you've ordered an 18-inch? Or have I got you
confused with someone else?
-
Hey Max!
Yep it appears they know how to pack for Int'l delivery.
Yes, I was ready to place an order on what I thought was a Yunzhi contemporary big box build...but thankfully a forum member recognized the design as being similar to a Melos design shape...so I'm back to square one to select a different archtop...but I'll likely place an order within a matter of days.
I'm trying to determine if Yunzhi can produce an 18" with traditional white binding...maybe I should simply consider going with their wood binding. I dig the white binding because it makes the guitars appearance pop.
-
2born,
The white binding certainly does do that.
I saw a pic of an old russet-colored Epi Triumph somewhere with white binding.
It was different and quite eye-catching.
But, simple white could be the wrong way to go with a semi-sunburst style.
That is, if you were thinking of that. Yunzhi looks to have a nice one in some of their photos,
I nearly ordered it. What stopped me was the thought that the photo-reproduction plus
my particlar monitor brightness could be misleading. So, I opted for natural finish.
