It looks as though the 1x12 Fender Concert is the forerunner to a lot of Rivera's later products like the Clubster -- very similar layout and specs but Paul tended to go for EL34s in a lot of his amps rather than the 6L6GCs -- I guess this made the OD channel more Marshally. I like the idea of the Concert with an EV -- seems like a win. There is one here on eBay OZ with an Eminence speaker for $1100 at the moment.

I think 15s are the best sounding speakers when properly matched with Fender combos. 12s are serviceable but on the harsher side. 10s are the sweetest to my humble ear, but they don't project worth a damn. If you're properly miked, no matter. More head room with a 15, definitely. Have used 15s in modded Twins and a warmer sound too. As we all say, just IMHO. But twins are heavy and loud. For jazzer gigs just a solid Deluxe, vintage or RI, does it for me. Even for rockier rooms too. Hard to push a Twin unless you're playing really, really loud. If you're not, why bother lugging such a beast around? God created Princetons.
For me, jazz or rock/blues/even fusion, an old brown Pro with a 15 is. the. best.

Hmm? I think that the Twin Reverb is one heck of a projecting amplifier. It fills a room MUCH better than a Marshall Stack, for example. I have gigged with both. The Marshall--a sensational amp when played with a Gibson SG, Les Paul or 335 for a Cream/Peter Green rock sound--is beamy as heck.
Still, I gotta give you props when it comes to pure sound. The best _sound_ I ever got from a Fender amp at high volume (back in the day) came from Fender Showman and Dual Showman Amps. Those 15 and dual 15 cabinets were incredible sounding when driven by the Showman amps. (They were also my favorite _bass_ amp in the 60s, too.)

Totally agree all the way. Hell yes, Twins will project and fill a room. These days I rarely play in rooms that can take one, sadly. But for recording and pedals, tough to beat, still a go too. Marshall stacks are a whole other thing and yeah, sure do kill when matched with HBs. Crank a Showman? You're there. The brown Pros are tough to beat in the right, smaller venues. Hammer one with an old GT? Heaven to this cranky tone chaser.

I don't have a Twin but have an early tweed Pro that has a 15" Jensen field-coil in it. I love that speaker! So I'm guessing I'd like a Twin/15" combo too.

The early tweed Pro is a magnificent amplifier. I have a friend who has one (in excellent condition). After playing it extensively and with considerable envy, I built my own. The Pro is a real gem.

You knows it. I traded my tweed Pro (killer) and some other gear for a supra fine '53 Esquire years ago. Lost the axe to a woman I was wooing (don't ask), been kicking my sorry ass over it for years. Picked up a '62 Pro and love it to death. I have a friend and teacher here in LA, incredible player, great guy and a total gear hound, has tons of vintage amps. Has four bf Princetons. One's modded and has a 12. Sweet, clean, beefy. Lotta amp in a small package.

Just came back from an outdoor gig outside a coffeehouse in a park. Decided to take the Twin, although gig was quite low volume. But you know, outdoor, no PA, no walls for projection and all. Long story short: sooooo glad I did. Man I love my Twin with my ES-125!
My normal channel is modded by the way: it has reverb and a Marshall/early Bassman tonestack (with .022uf tone caps and a 56k slope resistor). Beefs up single coils a little and makes the 125 sound just right: full, lush, woody.
Yes I'm in love with my Twin.....
