I built my 12 inch speaker cabinet with a rear mount system.
Just out of curiosity I flipped the speaker around to a front and what a difference.

In this case not a good difference. It sounded good but that thunky/pop-heavy sound I get with my little DV head was almost significanly reduced. I tried to dial it in with the eq but it just wasnt the same. With the rear mount it makes itself known with almost no mixing effort.

I imagine every cab/head mix is different so its worth trying if you self build. In some cases it might be an improvement but, for me, not this time.

Front mount is brighter, more immediate. I believe rear mount creates more high frequency absorption and more cab resonance. At least that’s how I recollect it sounding to my ears.

Yes thats what I got. I have no idea how it works but it seems like more cabinet coloring happens when its mounted in the back. Whatever the cause it was my immediate preference.
