I don’t think I have a clear idea about what the limiter is supposed to do. On my Superblock US I don’t really notice any effect…. Does the overall volume go down when you dial it up?

*edit: had the bright idea of asking Google AI and I probably don’t notice the effect because I keep my gain low all the time. But I will experiment with the gain knob and the limiter to see if that can get the tone to ‘sing’ a little bit more.

The limiter is a kind of compressor. A standard compressor responds to signal level, while the Quilter limiter circuit appears to me to respond to distortion level. Below the noon point on the knob, it starts limiting gain as the distortion level in the signal starts to rise above pure clean tone. As you advance the knob past noon, it allows more distortion but only to the set point. It seems to limit the output signal level by inaudibly holding the peaks of the waveform to the set level. It restores full signal between peaks to keep the overdrive smooth. I hear no pumping at all in either of my Tone Blocks or the SBUS I had for a few years, and I use the limiter with mild O/D for blues and fusion tones.

If you don’t push the gain into O/D, the limiter won’t do anything. With gain and volume dialed for slight O/D, the limiter will hold the edge of breakup when set between 10 o’clock and noon while allowing decent picking response. With high gain settings, the limiter smooths and softens more extreme O/D when set above noon. It audibly limits volume a bit when set high with the gain also set high, which adds sustain but reduces dynamics significantly. With the limiter off, high gain is fuzzier, max volume is louder, and sustain is not grossly prolonged.

When I need a small sound system, I use my ART MP preamp driving a BAM200 into a Toob Metro FRFR on a stand. I have the ART with controls on my mic stand, and the speaker is positioned for best sound. So I’d prefer a Bud / Blu head to my Blu 6 if I had a choice.

I also have a powered speaker for bigger gigs. Having the controls on it is inconvenient when the best location for it is not close to me.

I’m sure you know this already but you can defeat the speaker by plugging something into the headphone output. You can just plug a 1/4” adapter in there. And the bud can handle a 4 ohm load so you can plug it into two 8 ohm cabinets in parallel. I did this for fun last year with two separate 2x10 cabs (one with Jensen blackbird 40s, the other with celestion golds).

Definitely the best sound I’ve gotten out of a Henriksen.

I guess I’d pass since it’s only 50 watts rated. And I sold my 101 due to lack of Clean Headroom even at the Surf setting.

I use the older Aviator Combos and a TB202, since they can cover any gig without sound reinforcement ( monitoring).
This pertains to outside louder gigs mostly.
But much like when entering traffic on the freeway,I want at least more power to accelerate if needed,Lol!

The Mach 3 will cover any gig and the tonal options are endless. That said, Bluetooth, better reverb, trem and overdrive along with dual plugs would be nice. But it is pretty good as it is.

A superblock US with 50 watts and a built in power supply would be pretty nice as well along with a better reverb and Bluetooth.

At least on my Mach 2 HD, the Limiter is extremely subtle, but it is there if you listen carefully. I do use it.
