You may not be surprised to hear that maestro Mark Kleinhaut's bounty of inspirational solo guitar videos have claimed another casualty. A year back, I called Tom Ribbecke, Sonoma county master luthier, and put in my own order for one of his exceptional instruments. Well, in short order, the guitar (built by Tom Ribbecke and Tyler Wells) is here, and I'm thrilled to share some pics, vids and sound examples for you.
Here's an audio recording of my first recording with the guitar:
Here's an explanation of why I chose 9-strings for a chord-style solo instrument (Part I):
Here's Part II where I mention the campanella chord technique and a Coltrane sequence idea:
...and some pics:

What color is it exactly? EVERY color. There's purple, blue, yellow, orange, grey, and green. It is like an opal that changes slightly as you move it around in the light. Tom has exceptional skills interpreting colors on his instruments and he surely knocked this one out of the park.

That's it for now. I need to get back to learning where the notes are on this fretboard!Last edited by mikeSF; 12-16-2025 at 12:05 PM.

But you’ve gone completely over the edge!! Seriously though, it’s gratifying to see this as a ripple effect having anything to do with me.

Have you considered buying a Harp? Lol! I think an arrangement of
Stevie Wonder’s “If it’s Magic” would be wonderful on that guitar,

I think it's a Steinberger gearless tuner. Those planetary type tuners are used commonly on banjos, and Tom Incorporated it here with great effect.
