Hello, everyone. First post here. I'm quite new to the guitar, but as a trumpet player I've studied jazz theory for many, many years. Please forgive me if there is a better format for questions like this, I hope my question is clear!

I'm asking your advice on a specific chord progression that I'd like to play more quickly/easily. Specifically, the I-vi-ii-V7 progression. Think of playing this progression fast, like we're playing "Dinah" or similar.

Now, when we're talking about a I-IV7-ii-V7, that second dominant chord you can just play the diminished chord one half-step up from the I chord. It keeps everything super close on the fretboard and I can play that quite quickly, even while singing over the top of it.

My struggle is when the vi chord is minor. Then we're left with some less appealing options. I either have to play it as a major 6th chord, which keeps the bass note the same (boring) or I jump my whole hand halfway down/up the fretboard to hit the iv in the bass. Like the progression BbM7 / G-7 / C-7 / F7, you have to really jump to get over to the G, making the progression hard to play quickly.

I have a suspicion that there is some inversion, shell chord, triad, or other way of voicing that vi chord that makes this much easier.

What do you think is the easiest way to navigate this progression that keeps the hands in the same location on the fretboard and still gives appealing bass motion, that I can play very quickly?

Thank you!
