I have a desire to play the guitars, Mick. Your idea of "using" an instrument or "owning" one sounds terrifically dull.

I would not hesitate to buy from Kurosawa - of course after asking all the important questions and getting the "right answers" and maybe some high res fotos of "questionable" areas.

I really do wish Phosphor bronze strings corroded less quickly and were more consistent because they do look amazing.

We do currently play music together, but it's almost all in the realm of folk/Americana, which means I'm playing a few strumming / finger picking patterns that stay...
I don't think anyone is saying don't work hard or don't practice, just have fun. But as the OP pointed out, there are a million things that we could be practicing. With all the resources available...

He also played a huge instrument IIRC (19"?) so it wouldn't be surprising if he used a longer scale length that would have increased the tension-at-pitch of those 12s.

Just looking it does not look structural. Seems it might be a lamination line in the construction of the neck. To me this is nothing but not a good picture of the situation.
From what I've been able to uncover in my research, Freddie used a more standard .013-.056 set...but his action was insanely high. There's video to prove the latter part!
