    First electric guitar build-first_build_01-jpg

My first guitar build, using a slab of mahogany and sourcing the neck and other parts from the cheapest squier i could buy (bullet Mustang)
I'm using only a few tools (saw, chisel, drill and lots of sanding paper), but I managed to get a good connection of the neck to the body.
The pickguard is still a carton template, and i want to add a nice wooden knob.

Still need to do a lot of sanding the body and then a finish with tru oil.
    So much fun...

It's a quirky fun little design I think.

Rumor has it that a tone control is a helpful addition to a Tele-style neck pickup.

Shellac works great and looks great, brushed, padded ("French polish") or sprayed from a can.
I've never used TruOil but I did a couple with tung oil. Mine came out kinda half-baked . . . the successful TruOil jobs I see online all say that it took a zillion coats. In contrast, if you pore-fill before finishing you can get a nice looking shellac finish quicker than that.

Eager to see what you brew up!

Thanks! Yes I guess a tone knob could be added, but I like to keep the design void of electronics as much as I can
Irarely use it on my tele when I’m playing anyway since I’m usually right next to my amp

    It looks very original.
Too bad it's not a chambered body.
    Great work!

I'm picking up an early 20th century abstract painting vibe. A little Picasso. A little Braque. I dig!

What a happy design! I have all sorts of pleasant thoughts about it, but will make one small editorial suggestion regarding your pickguard design, as follows:

Not a suggestion or recommendation, but I was reminded of this particular treatment of Godin's classic body shape:

Here's a small soundsample to prove it's a working instrument

Since this is a present for my daughter, I'm allready thinking of a next one...

Wow - that sounds really fine!! If it plays that well too, you might want to get started on yours ASAP. Or you could keep this one and tell your daughter you’ve had supply chain issues.

I’ve been telling my wife for years that I’m going to build a guitar - you’ve pushed me to the edge. Nice work!
