Im using a single coil pu. If I take my hand off the strings I get an annoying hum. Sometimes I get a popping sound when I pick up the guitar.
I have very limited knowledge of electronics but my assumption is I need to ground the bridge and thus the strings (since its a metal tailpiece under the ebony cover).
Is the solution to run a ground wire from under he pickguard (off of the volume pot) and connect it to the end pin jack where the pickup ground is connected?
If that is the wrong way please advise.
Not that its complicated but am I overlooking a more simple solution?
I sometimes make simple things difficult.
Thanks!

The fact that the hum goes away when you are in contact with the strings indicates that the ground connection already exists. Do nothing

Turns out I fixed it. Im not sure exactly how. There were some bad cable connections and a week connection to the output jack on the guitar. On top of that the jack input of my amp wasnt making good connection with the speaker out 1/4 cable.
So Im not sure which problem it was but is fixed. Id also swear Im getting better resonance in the signal too but that could just be in my head.
thanks!
A very special NGD: a custom build that brought my ideas to life.
