When I play freeform, and everything is in the moment, I strive for compositional logic and structure. When I play a tune like this one (“You Stepped Out of a Dream”), it's the opposite; I'm looking for the freedom and loose feel as if nothing was preplanned. I was asked if I could explain what I’m doing, and that’s one of the main concepts I lean on. Helpful?
