Aha, no problem, found this lurking in the archives.

It's often the case that hearing a vocal version can help internalize a song on the guitar.

I plan to do a new clip, but this one is the head with the "Friends" solo composed by Jimmy Raney, found in vol. 20 of the Aebersold set. Working through those solos is still the single best learning experience I've ever had in jazz guitar. At the end I have some fun with a technique I learned for rolling "Credits"

Not easy!

It makes a good bossa.
-
No, that's not true, not every song can be played bossa. Well, they can, but it doesn't sound good.
-
No, a professional wouldn't say 'I can turn everything into a bossa because I'm a professional', that's too childish. A professional would say 'Some tunes, not written as bossas, can sound great as bossas'.
-
Correct, some are much better as a samba.

Probably a lot of street kids in Brazil could tell you immediately what was a real bossa nova tune and what was an American take-off, like Blue Bossa.
But Jobim was classically trained and spent years playing American jazz standards in clubs before he wrote his bossa tunes. It's not widely known that the fundamental bossa harmonies aren't native to Brazil, they're taken from American standards. 'Wave' is based on a blues format.
This sort of thing might interest you.

Incidentally, I don't necessarily like all bossa music. I find some of the tunes a bit silly and irritating.

If you had to say one thing you learnt, what would it be?

"Just Friends"
I dedicate this recording to two nice musicians - DB and Lionelsax...
This is one of my last recordings.
The experiment with Band in the Box. The saxophone generated by BB-could be of better quality. The exchange of the eight-bar phrases / sax-guitar / is quite creative.Easy jazz.
Hope You like it:
