I’m currently working with this luthier in PA, and he has been a pleasure to do business with. He has started making archtops and I just wanted to share his information as his prices are great for completely solid wood guitars (archtops are starting at 4k, but i’m sure that will go up as he gets more notoriety).
He’s been very open to customization, and I’m about to commission a 14” archtop with
-Solid spruce top, cut thinner for better acoustic response
-curly maple back and sides
-rosewood binding
-ebony board
-Customized inlays
-X bracing
-Customized f holes
Yes, the clip-on tuners I use for classical guitars are temperamental due to the nylon strings being softer, I'd say mushy compared to steel strings. It takes longer to tune.
I'll have to look into...
Well look at that! That turned out really nice. I like the new knobs, aesthetically speaking. Hoping that you have years of enjoyment with that guitar!
I hear more midrange, more "texture" in the vintage one. Granted it's not apples to apples but this is consistent with my experience about what makes vintage dearmond pickups unique in the first...
I have an Epi premium with the wine red color, plays great, sounds and looks great. Considering the measly sum i paid for it compared to my other guitars shows you don't have to spend a small fortune...
Jim these are as thin as they come although the 1000 without the polepieces is ever a bit lower. You can get clearance even when the distance from the top of the guitar to the bottom of strings is...
The Barker sounds warmer, but it’s impossible to tell what difference there might be because each guitar is different. The Heritage sounds fantastic in my book!
I was very disappointed when I put the reissue on my D'A and expected to get the same sound that I got from the RC-1000 I used ages ago.
Then I remembered that I was expecting to get the same sound...
I’ve shipped over 100 archtop’s both nationally and internationally. I’ve never once had a shipping incident. What’s my secret?
I’ve shipped with FedEx exclusively. I always double box any...
A friend of mine has a 2006 that he's selling. I was curious whether it's a heavier build, seeing as it was made for a rock guy... Or is it just a generic 175 ?
How is the Steve Howe 175?
