I use an iMac desktop and an iPad. I haven't been creating backing tracks, but I want to start. I think garageband can do this, but I'm considering buying the basic BIAB 2018.
Is there something else I should consider? From reading threads here it seems like BIAB is a great practice tool. I would definitely consider myself a "light" user. My practice time is extremely limited to begin with.
Thanks for your thoughts.

It's overpriced but I'm still glad I bought BIAB for my mac 2-3 years ago. If I'm working on a standard I might just use a backing track from a CD or YouTube, but BIAB helps with some "gee whiz..." questions about jamming over a certain snippet, or just one certain chord played for several minutes...
-
Yes, I do the same with youtube for backing tracks. This would be a birthday present to myself. lol So I think I'll go for it. There's an Amazon seller that has the 2018 basic version for 89 USD.
Thanks for your reply.

you wont regret it..realism is there....interface looks formidable..but i only use part of it...real tracks ...and the jazz solos...listen to Kris or Grahambop..both BB users...
-
I started using BIAB for creating playbacks to use on live gigs. I don't think it's overpriced, it has a lot of potential! The real instruments sound incredibly authentic.
Recently i did a show with live musicians in which we replaced player by player by switching on the respective channels on the BIAB virtual mixer. BIAB had to compete a real Steinway, an acoustic doublebass and "yours truly", but the sound quality was incredible. If it hadn't been for the purely mechanic execution of the triggered instruments the whole thing could have passed as real.
P.S. i don't think the jazz solos to be on the level of the comping stuff. It may take a while & some better software to make them sound okay.

JGSOLOS Folder. All you need now are the melodys....use that list....use the song finder search..many standards there or else get The Real Book.....also try switching the piano real track to a B3 organ ...best Chording real track...love the organ grooves with the solos.....
-
my favorite at the moment is number 91 from the jazz solos...its actually `If i Should Lose You`..love the way it unfolds ..you can then play Hank Mobleys version if your ok with notation...even Dextor Gordons solo to add to your choruses...endless ideas here with BB
-
cant leave without saying number 42 `The Shadow of your Smile` what a cracker .. pat metheny style.... number 49 and 86 `There will never be another You`...Joe Pass George Barnes and Grant Green style..

the jazz guitar solos are on a seperate platform program .sold seperately...i tend to use that as its quicker to load and no fiddling with real tracks..best practise tool out there...its midi sounds but i think theyre amazing..

Thank everyone! I'm going for it!

I'd love to get it, but I guess you have to be close to your computer to use it ? In my case i practice in a different room. Is there a way around it?

Or maybe there’s some way of sending the sound wirelessly to a speaker in another room, one of those Bluetooth (?) systems or something.

But I've given it up to use a metronome instead. When the only other sound is a metronome's click, I can hear and analyze my guitar tone, technique, and tuning more clearly. Also, I have to keep the song structure in my head, unless I'm reading. I can't lean on the backup, 'cause there is none.
Also, I don't have to turn on the computer, scroll through the zillion choices, etc., etc.
BIAB is cool, but using a computer as a backing group seems more and more to me like using a computer as a wife, or other partner for physical intimacy, if you know what I mean. It can be done, and it's amazingly realistic, but it's not extremely satisfying.

My computer promptly started dragging and distorting, hence my buying a new one.
I did learn to burn CDs with my backing tracks. I would burn in four or five songs at different tempos and just play them with a relatively loud, old CD player that I have.
I also hooked up a bluetooth transmitter (around 25 bucks) that I got on Amazon and would play it through a bluetooth receiver that I plugged into my cheap Squire PA system or I would use a small bluetooth speaker for cases in which I would be in the next room.
Hope this gives you some ideas, Amigo!
