So this is Joni Mitchell playing live. First, I noticed she was playing an Ibanez George Benson model.. but then directly behind her is a very young PAT METHENY, and on bass, Jaco Pastoris! Yikes that is quite a surprise.

Mike Brecker is in the band too. Lyle Mays on keys. Don Alias on drums IIRC.
It's a great concert film - you can get in on DVD 'Shadows and Light'

Yes I've seen most of those performances on video, and of course listened to the record. What a great band, though JMHO her stuff with The L.A. Express from the mid-70's was peak Joni. (The original LAE lineup was bassist Max Bennett, drummer John Guerin, guitarist Larry Carlton, keyboardist Joe Sample and saxophonist Tom Scott, later replaced by Robben Ford as guitarist and Larry Nash as keyboardist.)
I imagine Pat turned her on to the Ibanez guitars. She had a tumultuous romantic relationship with Jaco at the time, and he was very influential with her recordings from that era. Things were never dull with Joni back in those days.
