I like your comment (as always!), but WE haven't reached bottom. It isn't WE.

I am not surprised by this, as I have heard these stories for at least 10 years, from performing musician friends and concert-goers.
    This is common in America.

I'm hesitant to blame politics for this incident. If the heckler had been The Orange One, I think we would have heard about it.

And I was thinking it was a UK speciality. Clearly not.

I still wonder if us knowing about what happened to Metheny is more related to social media (and how one becomes aware of such an occurrence), than a major increase in said occurrences (say compared to 25 years ago). E.g. if this happened 25 years ago who outside of the event who know about it? Highly unlikely existing media would have reported it.

I recall similar type situations: Over 25 years ago, Lee Ritenour was playing at a venue with other less-than-jazz guitarists. After a few songs, Rockers, unaware of Lee, started calling out for Smoke on the Water!

Shakespeare always threw in some dirty jokes for the common folk. Maybe Metheny just needs to work blue.

One time something completely different happened here...

A guy visited from far far away, had the 1st part of the performance as prog rock solo or something. Quite fun and nice.
Then he said "ok, now I'm gonna play background music for your night out, enjoy your wines and coffees and what not"
But the audience kept on listening as it was a concert. And he seemed sooooo uncomfortable - he planned to play the second part
some smooth chord-melody and what not. And was so worried that it wasn't what people were there for...
But it was fine actually. Not a single complaint

I read an account by someone who claimed to be sitting behind the pair in question, and he said it was more a case of an extremely drunk couple noisily fighting with each other throughout the night rather than anything directed towards Pat. They were apparently incoherent, staggering, and reeked of alcohol.

In that context, the shove as they were escorted out makes more sense.

It's unpleasant and bothersome when such situations arise, but security is supposedly there to quickly intervene when they do, so what were they doing? Not their job, apparently.

BTW, Free bird? I've seen that song title mentioned many times over the years, so I just (consciously) heard part of it for the first time, fact. It has 17M views on YT, which is about all I can say. If you get a request to play it, here is a suggestion:

Yes! So, let's bring back a few Elizabethan era punishments.

"A person guilty of public drunkenness would be made to wear a barrel, that had holes for the arms and head and it was used for public humiliation. "

That settles the two people at the Pat Metheny venue!

im not 100% sure where you are from, but I would say continental European audiences are pretty respectful. I’ve been told off by Germans for being a noisy audience member haha.

Howard Rees told me of seeing Rahsaan Roland Kirk at the Colonial in Toronto where a drunk at the bar kept yelling "play Melancholy Baby'. Kirk, still blowing, without stopping (and stone blind) came down off the stage, across the bar and put the drunk in a headlock while continuing, no doubt a brilliant solo.

    Right, Brits abroad, can't beat'em.
Thank goodness Jude Bellingham is doing a single-handed PR job to balance things out somewhat, and that's coming from a Barça supporter.

Oh! I see. Well, it might be heavy. But,in today's society, most people wouldn't associate public humiliation with a man wearing a barrel in public.

TBF Pat heckled Kenny in the form of an article. My boy G has the guts to face him in person!

WHAT DID YOU SAY ABOUT MY INTONATION M************??????

I love Metheny, but really, what has he contributed to society as a whole? Kenny G, on the other hand, has taken his wealth and success and put it to good use, serving mankind in a way that only he is able….
