Thanks for that link! Not just for the Monk birthday program, but I've just re-discovered the goldmine of historical and musical perspective that was Phil Schaap's regular radio program. He's a source of authoritative information that he puts out there for free every time he's broadcast.
I hear a lot of questions on this forum "Where do I find out about this music? What books?" when just tuning in to WKCR live streaming can give you even more... all the time.

When I started at a big music school in Boston, I found that I had an idea of this music that no teacher could impart in a semester: Living music. I realized it's from my listening to New York radio.

This Friday 13 will be a 24 hour immersion in Pharoah Sanders. You can't buy this kind of education.
