    Just passed away.

Heard it from reliable sources, he lived in Copenhagen the capital of my home country Denmark.

I thought about interviewing him, since he was such a tragic figure of such great talent.

I'll never forget transcribing his Mr. PC lines. Such a great player.

    Oh no!

I am so sorry to hear this. I knew he had ongoing health problems. I hope he is at peace now, with no more pain.

    His music lives on.

Like his father and maybe 3 or 4 other jazz guitarists, you could spot that it was him in about 2 measures. He had a voice, a sound, a style that was distinctive. You heard his dad's voice in there, but fully assimilated into Doug's voice. He was truly his father's heir, not just an imitator.

I came onto Doug Raney's music late, but every time I hear a track of his, my heart jumps.

Our music school library was good. There were some albums from a small label called steeplechase. There were a few records featuring a lovely trio of Chet baker NHOP on bass and Doug. It was my first time to hear him. The music was so compelling. We started to play their arrangement of Love for Sale. Also remembered thinking how great Chets ear was playing on Wayne shorters house of jade. Sad news yes. But some good memories.

I can't seem to find an actual obituary or death announcement anywhere.

Does anyone have a link other than the Facebook post at the top?

It will probably take a little time before official announcements. Doug didn't have family in Denmark and the place he lived is a facility which grants its residents anononymity.

But hey, heres another FB link if it helps just the least:

This is so sad! Obviously he didn't seem to have the easiest life. RIP

Wonder if our forum's Uffe Steen knows something about him, since they both were prize winners of the Ben Webster Foundation and living in Denmark...
