The first time I heard "outside" jazz on any instrument was Eric Dolphy. How come 50 years after Dolphy, no one does it any better, on any instrument?

Answer:
Because when a rare genius single handedly invents a new form and inspires a million copyists, he is never topped.
Charlie Christian, Django, Bird, Wes, Trane, Art Tatum, McCoy T, Tony Williams.....
But getting back to "outside" players, who can tell me the key players (on any instrument) from each decade from the 70's to present? And further, what key elements of their style distinguishes it from other styles of outside playing? (eg- subs, quartal, pentatonics, triad pairs, exotic pitch collections etc).
ps- no, I don't have my own delayed answer to this one!
