    my favorite is vince mendoza... schneider is wonderful as well... they have been writing for and conducting our band many times. wheeler is going to be here
    in 2 weeks, brookmeyer later this year...our current bandleader is michael abene - his predecessor was bill dobbins... very few write well for guitar...

    I was actually thinking the exact same thing. Paul Chambers is a favourite of mine. Also surprised at the lack of Elvin Jones. I absolutely love his playing especially on Love Supreme. Not much Wynton Kelly either is also unexpected, having played on some of Wes' biggest albums I'd kind of expect to see more of him.

    But then I guess they're sort of "obvious," too.

    EDIT: Heh, just noticed that Elvin was mentioned a few times in the first posts. Don't know how I missed that.
