I'm sure many of you have heard about the "10,000 hour rule"? Well those guys are products of the 100,000 hour rule. Both started playing very young, got good fast, and never stopped or slowed down.

Guthrie comes from more of a bluegrass background, but Tom was playing in classic rock bands in bars when he was 15.

Though putting in the time is necessary, if you're putting in time in the wrong way (perfecting bad habits, just noodling, or playing "the same sh*t, different day"), your results won't match these.
Guthrie is all about 'knowing chords, everywhere on the neck.' a big proponent of the CAGED approach.
