Part 4 - Playing over min7b5 using dominant 7 chords

Another way of playing over a min7b5 chord in a 2-5 progression is to play over the 5 chord,
ignoring the 2 chord.

In other words, over a Dm7b5 chord, we can think of a G7b9 chord. The b9 of the G7 is the b5 of Dm7b5 so it's imperative that you not use mixolydian over the dominant chord.

Some good choices thinking about the G7 are

G7b9b13 (C Harmonic Minor (Bird's favorite))
G7 Alt (Ab Melodic Minor)
G 1/2 whole diminished (IOW, Abdim7)

To make any of these scales sound more musical, insert chromatic tones leading to the "juice notes" of the dominant 7 (or min7b5) chord.
On the G7, the juice notes would be:
G7b9b13 - b9,b13,3,7
G7Alt - b9,#9,#4,#5,3,7
G 1/2-whole diminished - b9,#9,#11,3,7

I encourage you to work out / write out lines while playing over a recording backing.

In this example, i'm thinking of a G7Alt over the Dm7b5 portion utilizing Ab Melodic Minor
and then I transition over to the Ab dim scale over the G7 which gives you a b9, #9, #11
sound. This is a little different than the previous examples which used the Abm7-Db7 over
the G7 chord.
