    Elvin hung around the West Side players (Magic Sam, Otis, Luther Allison) and those guys really had it going on...but the OP was about vibrato in jazz.

    you're right, but a subsequent post reminded me of the sound that I heard elvin bishop getting.

    re original post, I am guessing that the teacher might be meaning, "if you want to sound like these players....... they don't use vibrato" ,

    or " most jazz guitar players today do not use much vibrato"


    just a guess.
