In May 2008 Bucky Pizzarelli came to Toronto to play at the Heliconian Club. After the gig he kindly agreed to give me a lesson the following morning at his hotel. Here's the first 15 minutes or so. The guitar is a mid-1940's L50 which we traded back and forth during the lesson. In this part we were working on straight acoustic rhythm. His message (repeated often): "Lighten up!"
I wanted to share this as a tribute to the memory of this charming and generous guitarist. Please ignore my flubs!
A belated thanks for this gem you shared with us. Bucky comes across as such a friendly and warm person, in addition to being the master we all know he was. You were lucky to have this opportunity of meeting him!
I thought I had caught up with the thread, but bars 13-14 seem to have been included with the latest 4 bars.
I'm getting there slowly, but I'm playing 100bpm.
Good thread, I'm enjoying...
Those kinds of radical mods are things you do when you're in need of a very specific functional requirement. They're things you do because it's your guitar and it makes you happy. But these things...
Of course, and it wasn't my intention to contradict you on this. But the OP only mentions a slight intonation problem at the 12th fret on the lower strings, nothing that makes me think of a problem...
I wouldn't have made these changes, but I have seen similar ones made by a competent luthier. Pete Moreno put a mounted pickup in a gorgeous Heritage that was x-braced. He was able to shim a small...
You are welcome, Hammertone! Ploughing through a dissertation is certainly something for a rainy weekend or two.
Btw., as an owner of NOS "Roger electric 54" parts you could start to assemble some...
Once I wrote the melody of Bluesette out in a few ways, just for fun:

It's a Musescore file.
Sounds weird occasionally and can't...
Yes, Paul Bigsby is one of the pioneers of the solid body guitar and certainly George Beauchamp and a few more names.
For me, it's not primarily about the competitive idea of who was really the...
Nice pick @Jimmy Smith. Mine would be Jim Hall and Bill Evans.

Well the ad does mention "*(top X-brace cut through to mount replacement pickups, interior pedestal installed between top and back, tailpiece modified for 1/4" jack, mounting holes drilled next to...
I agree, it's not that inspiring but it's the song we've got.
The RB has AABA so I did it like that but I did notice that most versions including the composer's skipped the repeat. And it's not...
I frankly don't disbelieve that the best of American archtops are superior to anything else - you guys invented them. And Martin guitars - a recent discovery for me: genius.
I'm going to say...
I'm posting journals as reflections on my experiences at open jazz jam sessions near where I live in Japan. I hope some of my experiences will resonate with the experiences of others in their...
