In May 2008 Bucky Pizzarelli came to Toronto to play at the Heliconian Club. After the gig he kindly agreed to give me a lesson the following morning at his hotel. Here's the first 15 minutes or so. The guitar is a mid-1940's L50 which we traded back and forth during the lesson. In this part we were working on straight acoustic rhythm. His message (repeated often): "Lighten up!"
I wanted to share this as a tribute to the memory of this charming and generous guitarist. Please ignore my flubs!
A belated thanks for this gem you shared with us. Bucky comes across as such a friendly and warm person, in addition to being the master we all know he was. You were lucky to have this opportunity of meeting him!

In your other post you say that the RC1100 has been on that guitar since "forever" ... do you have 2 Barkers?
Simplifying the 1000/1100 comparison (hopefully getting it right!):

Turned 29 this year and I suppose 'young' is a relative term (I feel old, or at least 'older') and I played strats for the longest time. When I got into Joe Pass and got my first archtop I found I...
The trick is probably to have both, so also a job that brings in the real money, and ideally a rewarding one where you have enough autonomy and flexibility to support your musical endeavours.

Hmm. Maybe this was the case in the days when health insurance was affordable to buy yourself.
I mean, I’ve read this thread and seen the comments about gig pay. Holy crap!
