Could someone tell me whether an ES 175 from 1995 has a thin or thick neck? As I get older (70) I am developing a bad case of arthritis at the base of my left hand (neck) and am looking for a thin neck on a decent hollowbody. I might have to get one made at this rate.

    Thanks

    Doug

Epiphone es 175 premiums have thin necks. If you can get one of the premiums with the Gibson pickups, you might be surprised how much it sounds like a Gibson 175 for a lot less cash. There are more and more days for me lately where shorter scale thinner neck lets me play,so i can sympathize.

It's funny, but I see far more Gibson es175s for sale online, than epi 175s. Strange.

If you have the cash a Byrdland would be even better. Thin fast necks and 12’s feel like 10’s

Thank you Vinny, I'll start a Byrdland search right now! :-)

My 1997 ES-175 has a medium thickness neck that is very comfortable as it tapers to the slim side down low. I have old man hand problems and find that guitar very easy to play.

1995 may have a different carve. Do your due diligence.

When you say down low, do you mean toward the low E string or towards the high E as you hold the guitar? Thanks

Down low means the first five frets evenly across the board.

Uhhh, that's not the way it was explained to me.

Was it explained to you by a cunning linguist?

No, but he was a celebrated war hero.

    My 90’s ES-165 has a medium neck.

I’ve not played any 90’s Gibson's with fat necks. My only grip with the ES-165/75, is the neck heel and how huge the arch is from the back of the neck onto it.
Crude only begins to describe it.
