    We already have a sub-forum for Teles as jazz guitars. Why not a sub-forum for ES based (ES 330, ES 335, ES 345, ES 355, ES 339, etc.) guitars? Like the Tele sub-forum they could be any brand. I'm sure there are a lot of players on this forum that use their ES based guitar for jazz. Just a thought.

    A semi-hollow subforum is what you're describing for those models, which wouldn't fit with the ES-150, ES-250, ES-175, etc.

    Wouldnt bother me but I don't know that the forum gets enough traffic to really warrant it.

    We have this jazz paradise some of the world doesn't understand. I like the idea of strength in numbers rather than isolation.

    To get this going:

    This is a picture of my Warwick guitar, not in its current shape. I bought the wood in the 80s and added various hardware over time. Originally it had a string-through bridge which I replaced because I thought the guitar sounded too telecastery At the moment, it has a Strat bridge Which is okay, but not really great. I’ll probably revert to the original bridge eventually. The tailpiece is just for show.

    Well, I think the OP has a good idea. It's certainly a legitimate topic of conversation to talk about using these guitars to play jazz. What the parameters of that look like, since I don't own a double cutaway "Mickey Mouse" style guitar, is a little beyond my expertise (I have a semi hollow Telecaster, but I think that probably fits in the existing thread better). Would it be open to similar guitars from other makers, such as Yamaha or Ibanez? I've played a few of these often on over the years, I have just never owned one. They're often excellent sounding and very comfortable instruments.

    As was noted above, I think the OP should just start a thread about this topic. If it has legs, like the Telecaster thread, it can be made a "sticky" thread and may itself live through 80 or 90 pages. I'd love to see pictures of peoples' instruments and their stories about using them. Some of my favorite players, such as John Scofield and Emily Remler, are well known for using these instruments.

    Is this a semi hollow thread? Just curious: I had a Casino in the late 60's. It was full hollow. Is the Coupe semi?

    Maybe the thread is about ES thin lines... you know, the ones with what Christian used to call Mickey Mouse ears before he bought one.

    I didn't mean to sound like I was disparaging the suggestion. My initial thought was about what a small demographic the jazz world is, but then, this is a really large jazz community (I recently noted the statistics).

    There could certainly be benefits, but using a thread itself as a group could become less defined when people (like me, but not just me) meander off topic. Forums that automatically discourage additions to 'stale' threads (I haven't noticed that here, and completely do not understand why that's a problem. Re-creating a thread that already existed under such a forum restriction doesn't seem to provide continuity).

    I can see many reasons people would want info about different years and brands of models that are similar or different.

    A friend just received a new Ibanez '335-like guitar and I just got an old Yamaha one. First semi-hollowbody for both of us.

    For what it’s worth, most of the younger pro jazz guitarists I see here in the UK are using semi-hollows these days, they seem to be very popular.

    I read that too quickly. At first I thought you were talking about dead guitar players (horizontal) and vertical guitar players (still living).

    Yes I must catch Mike Walker some time, I haven’t seen him yet.

    I guess it’s quite a versatile type of guitar, a lot of jazz players these days need to cover everything from traditional clean sounds to fusion-type stuff with distortion etc. and the semis seem to fit the bill.

    Last time I had a jam with my 175 I had to play standing for a couple of hours (someone took the only chair!) and my back really grumbled afterwards, I can see a semi/thinline might be better from that perspective.

    I'm finally ditching the Seth out of the neck and going all in on the '57 classics. The Seth just works better in a darker guitar and my ES isn't dark enough. I ordered a gold cover for the '57 yesterday. Overall I have liked the '57's better, irrespective of the guitar.

    I think it might be useful to have a sticky thread where we can all add to the “collective wisdom” and debate about semis. Then every time a newcomer (to either the forum or to semis) asks one of the same questions that pop up all the time, someone can point them to the semi thread.
