I have tried these analogies too ( Mike Moreno - the Eric Johnson of Jazz, kinda ) so I get it.
A few years ago I saw a Video of Gilmour ( I think 'Live at Gdansk' ) and he was playing with an Orchestra and it's amazing what he gets from so few notes - he sounded like he was supposed to be there too ).Brilliant.
