I have a 1956 ES-225T and several years ago I was in a guitar shop and the owner had a Gibson ES-225T re-issue he let me play. I could not believe how close in sound and feel the re-issue was to my 1956. Gibson can get it right when they try.
Thanks John

What is considered "real" vs a "reissue?"
When you are talking about Gibson, for example, I have always thought about all Les Pauls made from 1968 onward as reissues. They are, to be sure, real Gibsons. However, the Les Paul was produced from 1952 until Les Paul told Gibson to take his name off of the SG product so that Mary Ford couldn't get more assets in the mid-60s divorce.
A few of the Gibson models have been in production since they were introduced. Nonetheless, Gibson has reissued tributes to the older versions. (ES-175, ES-335)
With Fender, it gets even harder.
FWIW, I have played the old ones and the new ones and the tribute/reissue ones. I like the Gibson ES-175 VOS guitars, just fine. They are light, responsive, and feel like the old ones.
