1962 reissue. Actually got it a couple weeks before the new year. Bought it used online w/ohsc from a GC in Oregon. It's in great shape with no fret wear. I haven't had a hollowbody for 40 years!
I'd been gassing for a thin fully hollow box for over a year, and back in Sept I had picked up a 2007 Casino, but the p90 pups were too hot and muddy at 11.8K output and neck was too narrow with a 1.5625 nut, so back it went, but it reinforced my desire for a thin hollow.
This Sorrento is laminated maple body, mahogany neck. Pretty much identical build specs as a Gibson es 125tdc, except it's got Gibson USA paf alnico mini-humbuckers instead of p90 pups.
I've been using a telecaster for everything the last couple of years, and it's been doing it superbly, but It'll be fun to throw the Sorrento into the mix, especially for big band, it'll have more of the look other band members expect to see.
A pic from Epiphone website.

Congratulations! Never played one, but it sounds like a guitar that would suit me. Enjoy it and do give us an elaborate review!

Ahh! I had the pleasure of playing the 'snot' green one and thought it was sweet. I had some monies so went back to the shop and it was sold. Settled for an Emperor Regent but still hanker after one of these.
Epiphone are hitting it out of the ball park at the moment. The whole archtop thing they're putting out is marvellous.
You have yourself a nice combination there matey

Nice score - Congrats!

That might be my favorite Epiphone offering since it may be their most unique. I can't think of another company that's making a fully hollow body thinline. Love it!

Very good looking guitar!

Persuasive, isn't it? I wouldn't mind one. It even has room to add a floating pickup at the neck position!
-
It sounds good in theory. (I'm an Epi fan, so don't take that as a slight.)
I wonder how it stacks up to an Epi JP, Gibson 135, and Peerless Sunset, among other similar offerings?

I had an old green Sorrento with one mini HB pup way back ....
Nice guitar
but i wanted more warmth....
I was running skinny strings in those days
I hadn't discovered TI flats then !
So that was a contributing factor
Probably could make it work for me
Really light build , nice
It was LOUD acoustically !
Is your reissue loud ?

congrats..the 62 sorrento edition was one of the best epi reissues i ever played
cheers

Stylishly designed, love mini humbuckers (floating or not). Enjoy !

The Epiphone 50th Anniversary '61 Casino RI is just a masterful guitar. Gibson P90's, 3 ply (thin) laminated top, wider neck, lightweight hollow body with a sound post and tuneOmatic bridge. They really put some loving craftsmanship into these.
I found one used, at a GC. It was set up perfectly, and sounded great, acoustically and electrically. I love practicing on it without an amp. Very alive guitar. Everyone who plays it loves it.

Nice. Those are sweet.

Eastman has fully-hollow thinlines. They're very nice. I have a 1953 Epi Century, full-depth, with the bullet plaque on the headstock. It's okay, but the Century is a bottom-of-the-line model. I no longer take it out of the case very often. It has been refinished and rerouted for a modern humbucker, not worth much, but I'll keep it, since it was a present from my sister long ago.

I bought one of those Sorrentos as soon as I noticed them. You could get them for a song (and not even a good song, so sort like an ABBA or Foghat song,...) late in the life of the dealer stock when new ones were the same cost as eBay "seconds" which seem to often flow from Epi. I forget the exact price, but it was the same as the seconds were going for at the time.
A great guitar for lugging where you might not want to have a prized box.
I found the PU's insanely bright. Further the bridge PU was far less wound and extremely bright vs. the neck. They were labeled correctly as Bridge and Neck, so one can possibly assume loose processes at work where they were made (USA, per the manufacturer).
I am a hesitant PU changer (when a tone knob so often does the job), but put in the erstwhile DiMarzio hot minis. These are still bright enough for all practical purposes. No longer available as far as I can tell. The similar GFS hot minis are quite microphonic, but workable if you feel it is not a problem at Jazz volumes and gains.
The dealer with the crazy low price, at the time I bought, did not have the dried booger burst, so mine is also natural. Great budget axe, happy to hear you like yours Cosmic.

I think these are totally cool, a guitar I'd definitely play myself.

For laughs I went to the Epi site to see peoples' reaction to the Sorrento. I noticed a comment, that did not seem to come from an escaped mental patient, regarding the apparent weakness of the Bridge PU vs. the neck.
In the case of mine the bridge PU was in fact notably weaker in the coil windings, so this actual weakness of the bridge PU may not be a unique situation to mine.
I suppose in such an case one could swap the Bridge and Neck PU's. This would balance the actual outputs reasonably well.

I always thought the Sorrento would be the perfect "couch" guitar, thin and easy to pick up and play, with enough acoustic sound that you don't always have to plug it in to practice.
I ended up with this: Seventy Seven Hawk, a fancier version of the same idea. Not sure if they still make them...great guitar!

The mini humbuckers are brighter than p90s, like a 70s era les paul deluxe, one of the more iconic axes that used low output minis. Both my neck and bridge pups are matched 6.8k output, about the same as my stock tele neck pup. I likey.
