IMHO the Wilde/Bill and Becky Lawrence L280 noiseless pick ups are the best drop-in replacements for the sake of fat tone and clarity.
The Dimarzio Area T pickups are a close second. They might get you closer to the classic Ed Bickert pre-PAF tone, if that's what you're looking for, than the Wildes. Having used both extensively, I prefer the Wilde pickups.
Both of those have a bit of humbucker compression; if you really like the true single coil sound, the Wilde Microcoil pickups for the Telecaster are outstanding. While they are a true single coil, they pick up less noise due to the smaller coil not offering as much antenna. There are two versions, one with I presume a ceramic bar magnet and one with alnico polepiece magnets; I prefer the sound of the ceramics (the alnicos are a little too Stratty for my tastes).
In my case, I have found that I like adding a resistor in parallel between the hot output of the bridge pickup and ground to sweeten/round off the highs just a little bit and make it less spiky. There are wiring diagrams on the Wilde website and also Lindy Fralin's website has a very nice page on this. Basically, this makes the bridge pickup think it is seeing a lower resistance pot, say 100K, while the neck pick up thinks it's seeing 250K. Folks who belong to the icepick school of Telecaster bridge pickups would probably hate it.
Thought I would share. Aerodyne Telecaster. Stock pickup replaced with CC in P-90 case and upgraded bridge pickup. Both by Pete Biloft at Vintage Vibe pickups.
Are you serious? Seriously go scrub it. I did say the #1 thing was to do ear work. Most distinguished musicians read and don't learn and process all their music 100% aurally. So reading is...
Yep, scams are at an all time high. I recently came across a couple 'steals' that had literally been listed 2 mins prior.
By the time I finished reading the ads they were sold. I recognized the...
Wrong note or jazz, yeah good question.
For me, the sounds come to me in complete phrases. Usually a 4 bar phrase. It comes to be and I play it, nearly simultaneously. By the middle of the phrase...
This IMO is the worst advice you can give to a noob. The most important thing for playing jazz of any style (and music in general) is being able to hear melodies and chord changes in your head --...
Is anyone noticing how pervasive seller fraud has become on Reverb? I have L-5 in my feed, among others, and previously sold items reappear, again and again--almost always outside U.S. I was flagging...
PSA - A fabulous assortment of John Monteleone guitars are currently on exhibit at the Long Island Museum in Stony Brook NY. The exhibit runs until Oct 13 of this year. The website link is:

For me Swedish Blues is a chromatic chain of II-Vs leading to the II V of the key like in Blues For Alice:
from bar 5: | IV | IVm7 bVII7 | IIIm7 VI7 | bIIIm7 bVI7 | IIm7 | V7 | I etc.
And is...
I was reading one of these discussions once and out of curiosity I took the chest piece off of a stethoscope and used the bare tubing end to listen all over my strummed guitar, to discover what parts...
I'm tuning in. I like Stern. I have a lot of peeves but his chorus doesn't bother me. Maybe because I'm not a guitarist.
I must say, it's cookville.
2nd edit: Stern is bringing fusion playing...
Once again I tried and failed. I cannot listen to Stern's cheesy chorus tone for more than a couple of minutes. I think I'm going to avoid Guitar Night for the rest of the month.
Hello Mick-7, appreciate all that you are doing here and looking forward to hearing your new arrangement. However also try to record Jeff's version as that is what this study group is about.

Again, I think you're being illogical admitting that the acoustic properties of electric guitars shape the overall tone, but for some reason the wood, the chief material doesn't. And also you don't...
