    Just a query about the 7th degree...you can play locrian or diminished, right? Just b7 vs bb7?

    Well, I won't say you absolutely cannot do something that is not part of the theory books. But, no, that is not the way the modes we are talking about work out. No.

    Music can be as complex as you make it, but, at least my advice is, use complex ideas to serve the music.
    If you constantly force changes onto a harmony that isn't really a vessel for it, odds are your audience wont respond well. Music is about, again to me, context. So if a progression goes C Am F G Am C, I can play F myxo since the chord doesn't imply that I can't but the ears will remember E not Eb.

    over analyzing the theory can be fun and cool for some people (like me) sometimes, but sometimes all you (and i mean that as a non specific you) need to do is "shut up 'n play yer guitar".
