If it's a band or independent/small artist stuff most sessions I've been on were one or two days for a whole album, two or three takes for tunes and solos. Singers and more famous people can take forever financially, but usually everyone has a very busy schedule so things can go even faster. Meaning there's only one day in months where all involved are available and you end up having two minutes to record a whole solo.
For my projects I try to have good charts and gig the material before hand. The whole point of all these live music styles is to hear people play and groove together, so when they record separately this is lost. Same for over correcting, patching in and moving things, I prefer a rawer sound so I record that way. I'd rather have a solo that's a real story and depection of that moment then trying to improve it here and there with copy paste. Plus it's easier for me to record just as if playing live, straight throughout the tune..
