Yes! Trio

For those of you who don’t know, Yes! Trio is Aaron Goldberg, Omer Avital, and Ali Jackson.

They have a new album out and I just noticed. I haven’t even listened to it yet, but their first album Groove du Jour is the best pure jazz album of this century and I will die on that hill.

That has that Evans/LaFaro/Motian vibe, as well as the many trio albums with Chick Corea (such as Miroslav Vitou and Roy Haynes).

But Goldberg has his own sound. Very thoughtful and melodic playing, and nice interplay with the group.

Dude has a BA from Harvard and Masters from Tufts in philosophy. In addition to playing regularly with jazz greats like Betty Carter, Joshua Redman and Kurt Rosenwinkel.
