A new thread on my activities as 'The London Jazz Guitar Society', an older thread that ran to several pages having disappeared.

I run the group on a not-for-profit basis, organising an occasional series of workshops with the best players and teachers from the UK and international scenes, as well as a monthly newsletter and daily social media content to spread the word about the great talent on the London scene today.

Our next workshop is coming up this Saturday 8 July, and is with the great Phil Robson.

One of the leading guitarists on the UK jazz scene over the last 25 years, and now based in Ireland after several years in NYC, Phil Robson is internationally regarded as a highly versatile and creative player who appears in a wide range of settings, as well as being a being a renowned bandleader and composer.

A renowned educator, Phil continues to be a visiting professor at Trinity College Of Music, The Guildhall School Of Music and Drama and The Royal Academy Of Music.

Phil has performed and recorded with such major talents as Mike Gibbs, Drew Gress, Billy Hart, David Liebman, Donny McCaslin, Liam Noble, Tom Rainey, Julian Siegel, Christine Tobin, John Taylor, Mark Turner and Jeff Williams.
In this workshop, we will look at learning tunes and Phil will share his insights into tackling both classic standards and modern jazz standards with post-modal harmony (Henderson, Shorter etc). Phil is happy to field questions on any musical topic and there will be time for some playing too!

Dang that’s quite a lineup. I haven’t seen the Kreisberg Veras stuff live, but the stuff they post sounds beautiful. Seen kreisberg in a trio and quartet setting a lot, so it’s cool to see him in that super toned-down vibe.

    That's a great list.

It's nice to see (Prof) Mike Outram listed, he was originally a local player, lived near Manchester.

Ronnie Scott's have a programme of early-evening duos, mostly two guitars, in their upstairs room on Thursdays. 10 August is guitarists James Kitchman and Artie Zaitz. Both great players. £10 adv / £12 otd. Doors 6pm. Music 7pm to 8.45pm.

Most places don't have their August listings up yet, but I'll keep an eye out for you Rob.
