I'm glad some of you remembered artists like Herb Ellis, Tal Farlow. Let's not forget the late Tommy Tedesco formerly of Fernwood Tonight, The Gong Show, and many of contributions as a studio session player and mentor to Toto's guitarist. Tedesco was so smooth, he was talking to another musician while playing and made it look so easy, especially when not even looking at his fingers like it was nothing.

Allan Holdsworth - 16 Men of Tain
Joe Pass - Virtuoso

-
Dave Cliff and Friends - "When Lights are Low"
Bill Frisell - "Unspeakable"
Ernest Ranglin - "Below the Bassline"
Derek Bailey and Henry Kaiser - "Wireforks"
Not exhaustive by any stretch of the imagination and many I would have been inclined to add have already been mentioned (Joe Pass, Django, Kessel, Scofield... and on and on; oh, and hats off to whoever brought the remarkable genius Frank Zappa into the mix.)
If I was asked next week, my favourites would have changed (twice, probably.)
It's so subjective but I think it's a great idea for a thread and it's interesting to see folks' opinions as much as the final top 100. Not only that but it'll certainly bring more jazz into my field of vision and get me buying again (even though I've got no money since I spent it on a custom shop 335... I guess I'll have to buy less beer and food for a bit .)

Les Paul- Lester & Chester, Les Paul Now, How High The Moon w/Mary Ford.
Django Reinhardt: Nuages (one of the most beautiful ballads I ever heard)
Charlie Byrd: Jazz Samba w/Stan Getz.
Howard Roberts: Is a dirty guitar player.
Kenny Burrell: All Blues (absolutely FANTASTIC).
Wes Montgomery: (anything by him as I consider him to be the Godfather of the new players such as George Benson,Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour to name a few).
Gabor Szabo:I love his recording of Breezin' he recorded it before George Benson.
George Barnes: His early work sounded a lot like Les Paul. I also like his work with Bucky Pizzerelli.
Johnny Smith:The Best Chord Melody Player Ever.

I will introduce a new guitarist to the mix the one of the father's of Jamaican SKA music which has some roots in JAZZ. The guitarist name is Earnest Ranglin and the Album is The Ultimate Roots Ranglin. He also has one called Roots Ranglin. If you want to see samples of his playing go to youtube and search on Earnest Ranglin. He does a song with just him and a bass player called ranglin live glastonberry.
