Hi, new forum user and new player here. My friend (who plays alto sax) and I are wanting to play Shorter's Black Nile at an upcoming jam session, and we both want to play the melody. However, we were curious about who should play what part on the tune's B section. Should I play the harmony part while my friend plays the main line on sax or vice versa? What's typical? Attached a picture of the relevant section in the sheet music. Thank you.
(Also, obligatory "sorry if this is in the wrong section")
Generally (no hard and fast rule) the sax would take the top line. Thats just because sax will blow guitar out of the water in terms of projection and the top line is usually the melody.
Listen to Miles and Milt Jackson on Bags Groove. Miles plays the melody the first time, while Milt plays the lower line. Then they switch. But whatever miles is playing sounds like the melody because of how much better the instrument cuts through.
I also had one of the early Katana 50s and used it in a short lived surf band as well as with my oldies trio and really enjoyed it. I think I only sold it after I found my Evans RE200 which is...
Sorry, mates, this, the Performaxe, is godawful. Aluminium and spruce-topped guitars don't mix. Anyday now, you're going to put a nice delicious gouge or divot or ten on your guitar, no matter how...
I bought an inexpensive nylon string electric (Cordoba Stage) mostly for Bossa Nova sorts of things. It does sound quite good. Having a hard time getting used to the nylon string action (3mm at...
Thanks,
He's chord scaling so his chord symbols are really chord/scale symbols (extra stuff enough to identify the scale), but he writes he's for removing thoughts from the written page and...
The red one fits right in with my other two girls :) There's a theme here with these three, I just can't put my finger on it :highly_amused:
(And Mark, your guitars are spectacular, thanks again!)
I know the guitar well. Here's a bit of the back story.
Once upon a time, Heritage was new and trying to penetrate the market. The builders were all experienced in their craft. JP Moats was the...
