Hi, new forum user and new player here. My friend (who plays alto sax) and I are wanting to play Shorter's Black Nile at an upcoming jam session, and we both want to play the melody. However, we were curious about who should play what part on the tune's B section. Should I play the harmony part while my friend plays the main line on sax or vice versa? What's typical? Attached a picture of the relevant section in the sheet music. Thank you.
(Also, obligatory "sorry if this is in the wrong section")
Generally (no hard and fast rule) the sax would take the top line. Thats just because sax will blow guitar out of the water in terms of projection and the top line is usually the melody.
Listen to Miles and Milt Jackson on Bags Groove. Miles plays the melody the first time, while Milt plays the lower line. Then they switch. But whatever miles is playing sounds like the melody because of how much better the instrument cuts through.
We all have fashion, even if that fashion is anti-fashion. What you wear is a statement, even if the statement is that you're too busy with more important things.

I'd say the latter goes for any kind of music, and the former seems ... impossible.
That said, back when I was young and absorbing everything I could of my kind of music I was surprised that the...
I could hear it on my tele- it was just so subtle that it didn't matter. No EQ changes were required. Perhaps different guitars react differently to changed fret materials. The video I posted...
I have both a SF Princeton Reverb and a SF Deluxe Reverb, but both have been modded a bit.
The Princeton is perfect for a grab and go to jam amp and it can 'sing' without using any pedals at jam...
I've had a Zoller AZ48 pickup mounted on a pickguard with a vol, tone pot and jack socket for a floating pickup for many years, it's still in my cupboard.
I've just taken a picture of it:
The new tune for this fortnight is When Sunny Gets Blue as selected by Mick-7 and decided by the roll of a dice.

Yes, played acoustically, stainless steel frets sound very different, but when using a gig level loud amp, I don't hear any difference.
I've had SS frets on many guitars for over 20+ years.
For me the Deluxe reverb is the best amp ever. Cuts any gig volume wise, and the best tone, not super clean but with that slight break up. Princeton is great amp too, but not as loud so not as...
Thank you for your answers! I will buy a bridge made of wood.
To be honest, I'm also thinking about changing the pickups. I owned a Les Paul Custom 30 years ago and really liked the sound. What do...
I couldn't open the link, but what you describe sounds a bit like an approximation of a Banjo-approach, which totally makes sense in a setting like that.
I could open your link for mellotone, and...
