Disclosure - I am an endorser for 77 Guitars.

This guitar is gorgeous and sounds amazing. I think I like it even better than the Deep Hawk Standard I already have. The maple neck and ebony board feel and sound beautiful. With this neck, it gets a slightly brighter pick attack but still has that characteristic, dark thunky sound we all know and love with the 175.

Videos coming soon. Maybe even a comparison video.

Those are so cool. I haven't seen any in the states with p90s, but they're absolutely beautiful. I see that they can be had for the equivalent of $1400 in Japan. Add import duties to that and you've still got great value.

They are a bit more than $1400 , a new one is in the $2200 range. A P90 version will be a bit more but not much. There is the single P90 one at TanTan guitar shop in Japan for roughly $1400 plus shipping and fees but its a floor model and a sale price, its a killer deal for that kind of dough. Bob

They can check my Reverb store "Bobs Fine Guitars" if they like. Eiichi is the distributor , I am a dealer. Either of us can help them out. Thanks again. Bob

A comparison Video would be great...

I am not supposed to be swayed by appearance but man , that Guitar is beautiful.

Looks like it has some nice beefy Frets .

I am also very curious about the Hawk Jazz ( the thinner slimline )-( edited for correct Name )
It still seemed to have a lot of depth on Demos for a thin Guitar though I suspect that it would benefit to have the Fingerboard PU closer to the neck ( on Hawk Jazz Thin ) than the Fat Models.

I wish the Mahogany neck on the Fat Hawk was 3 piece though to resist long term warping...

I know what you mean Bob, however my '63 Kessel and '89 175 have very straight 1 piece mahagony necks! I'd also love to try one of the thinner ones. I'm going to do a comparison video soon. Still getting my new computer setup...

Thanks Jack- I love your Reviews as I'm sure many do.

Looking forward to it ...hopefully Seventy Seven will send you a Jazz Hawk (non fat lol) to Review...( for Others- that's a Thinline Version ) soon also - if you don't mind ..
I don' t mean/ presume to book all your time haha.

Thanks for the Info on the Mahogany 1 piece necks...

I am pretty excited about these Guitars.

Even the back of the neck is beautiful on the Fat Jazz Hawk .

By the way, "Standard" is not the denotation of the thinline. The blonde single pickup I have is a standard.

One thing that's really interesting is how different the hawk standard and the hawk jazz are. It's sort of apples and oranges since my standard has a single pickup but the difference between the two guitars is pretty big. The hawk jazz has a much thicker tone with a brighter attack due - i think - to the 5pc maple neck and ebony board. The single pickup model with mahogany neck and rosewood board is much more delicate in tone. There is also a difference in weight.

The hawk jazz is 7.2lbs, the standard 6lbs

Some more miscellaneous ramblings...After more playing between the standard and the jazz, the difference in sustain is remarkable. The standard with the single pickup has sort of a typical vintage archtop sustain whereas the hawk jazz has a full note bloom. I'm not sure if this is the maple/ebony at play here but it really makes a difference in sustained phrasing. It reminds me a bit of Kreisberg's 175 tone. The standard with it's single pickup is definitely a more lively sound in terms of top vibration but the hawk jazz has a little bit of 335/355 in its blood.

Very Interesting ...is the Jazz Hawk neck heavy or still nicely balanced ?

Edit- 7.2 lbs is nothing to me ..the Koa Superstrat is use is well over 10 pounds and with blocked trem is as loud unplugged as a 335 , but deeper sounding .Interestingly it also has Maple Neck Ebony Board but not bright .

Also long ago I had an ES 347 Maple Neck, Ebony F.Board also heavy weight dark sounding - the ' liveliness'; came back somewhat in Single Coil Mode ( not the same as livelier top , but still the 'Stringiness' comes back).

I had already asked about the possibility of coil cuts on a Seventy Seven Hawk.

Seems like any time Seventy Seven uses 'Jazz'
in the name - it is a Phatt Sounding Guitar on ANY model.

The Exrubato Jazz sounds like a deeper 335 or deeper 330 to my ears ..really cool sounding so another Model I am interested in from Seventy Seven ...

I like the sound of the Hawks best from demos though ...so far .

it's balanced nicely. I've played and owned a few maple neck 175s , a 775 and now this hawk jazz and none of them were neck heavy. The drawback is that the maple is heavier than mahogany so the overall weight is higher. I remember reading that the reason the Les Paul was mahogany and maple is that when Les Paul made the first all-maple Les Paul it was 15lbs

Would love to see a comparison video. My next guitar might be one of these. I think a P90 version would be killer!

FYI, my '89 175 is heavier than the hawk jazz by about 1/2 lb
