sub is short for substitution, or sandwhich depending on context.
-
Hi
'sub' stands for 'subito' meaning quickly/immediately/suddenly. So ' p sub' would mean a sudden drop in volume.
Cheers
Steve

subito is italian and might be ok.
But why you're thinking about that?
You have to take care what you want do do on a fretboard or something like that.
Play unplugged and ask yourself always "why"?
of course something weird.

Steve is right. "piano subito" - in other words, play suddenly quietly.
Hubert, true to form, is completely incomprehensible.

sorry guys
the meaning of p sub seemed obvious, therefore my a little bit intolerant attempt to provoke.
Coltrane's music must be very nice...
Like reading between the lines...
I apologize

hi jeff with the lute
because of my horrible english or what else?
-
"Piano" means softly in Italian, while subito means, among other things, "right away". "Play softly and do it NOW."

Oh somebody seems to understand.

In defense of Hubert, who doesn't really need any defending actually since he is a very knowledgable person who knows what he is talking about if you overlook the awkward English and the "elliptic" style of writing, some people never understand the late Coltrane. Even someone like Joe Diorio admitted as much. I don't actually "understand" most of Love Supreme even, but I still know it is full of great playing and very original music.

Mille grazie, Franco (a lot of "patience")
and sorry "bigbang" that I'm the cause of useless discussions.
But don't wait to ask questions! I think, most of the guys here
can help you with "classical" music.
best wishes
the main intention for me was trying to define "what are you doing if you play quietly
"all of a sudden"?
in german "plötzlich" regarding "volume".

don't forget or ignore
