    Hey guys,

Does anyone know the name of this tune that Rene Thomas’s is playing here?

    It’s super hip!

That was some sweet, clean sweeping guitar. I have not heard that very often in Jazz. Love those minor Blues. It was what I thought of first when I thought of Jazz. Probably from all those Noir films I used to watch as a young fellow.

    Thanks for the post.

Alright, alright. You guys have done it.

I am going to create a CD with nothing but smoky, minor Blues.

Good question. Is it really 16 bars? That would throw me off with my feel of the song.

Thanks for helping! Is the tune’s title a reference to Sonny Clarke?

There are blues forms that are not 12 bars. The 16 bar form used to be quite well known but is less common now.

I bought the lp on my honeymoon in Paris over 30 yrs ago. Also picked up Chet Baker's "Chet Is Back" which had the same personel as the posted video.
    Love me some Rene....

I think it’s more likely Sonny Rollins. Rene Thomas played with him in the USA if I recall correctly, and Sonny was very complimentary about Rene’s playing.

Mind you I’m not sure who wrote the tune, Rene or Bobby Jaspar?

Apparently it was written by Rene:

    I remember Sonny

There are some great shots of Rene here. And a swinging nun, what more could you ask?
