Hey! I've been working on Billie's Bounce and All Of Me for some time now. I'm hoping to make my first appearance at the local village jam, and have been trying to get my act together. Here are recordings of both tunes made tonight and yesterday. I have another week and a half before the final jam session of the year. Would love to hear any feedback. (One of my main goals recently has been to try and keep track of where I am in the form without constant reference back to iRealPro. I do have a couple of sneaky peaks in both recordings here, but I think it's getting better. Let me know what you think.)

I thought these were great, Cliff. Real nice sound and swinging very well indeed. I need to take a leaf out of your book and move up to a more swinging eighth note line style of playing rather than my current laid back approach. You do this style well.

I think you do a good job of staying on track. Again, I do an easier thing by recording my own backing tracks and (because it's guitar not bass) it's easier for me to hear where I am. Using the backing you're using feels a lot more challenging, to me, so well done!

You'll have no issues at the jam :-)

the best thing for me was to lose the sheet and just get lost a few times. with time I get lost less and less.

This. And remember, you certainly don't need to be playing all the time...even when soloing...

Which is my way of saying--you're ready, go to the jam!

Thanks all for the kind words and encouragement. As Christian said: everybody gets lost, it's a question of how quickly you can find your way again.

Funny, I feel way more nervous about sitting in for a couple of tunes than I did for the 7-part job interview process I recently underwent.

    Here’s a fun game.

Play the melody for four bars, improvise or play the chords for four bars, melody for four, etc

Same thing with two and two … three and one … one and three … etc.

Tricky with All of Me. Brutal with Billie’s Bounce. But a great way to firm up your memory. We tend to hear this stuff and remember it in chunks, so disrupting the chunks and forcing yourself to remember it in different ways is really useful. It’s like when I used to give presentations in high school and someone sneezed in the back of the class. I’d have to start all the way back at the beginning of the slide or whatever because I couldn’t remember where I was .

Relax, it's just a Jam at an English village hall. No one will really care if you play well or not, so enjoy yourself.

If the group is smart, they'll make you feel welcome, help you if you get lost and ask you to come back. If they throw shade at you, fuggetaboutem.

They seem like a pretty cool bunch to be honest, I don't think there'll be any shade.

Back of an English pub, but yeah. I do tend to work myself up about things.

Just realised where you are. With a few exceptions I tend to imagine everyone's in the USA, hanging out on 52nd Street or down in the French Quarter. You're not so far from me!

Listen to the bassist. If they are any good, they'll tell you where you are in the changes. If the basis isn't any good, then listen to whoever's playing the chords. If there isn't anybody else playing the chords, throw a few in during your solo to help orient yourself. Play a phrase, do a couple of chord hits in bar 4, play a phrase, do a couple chord hits in bar 8, etc.

The house band bassist is solid, but it's possible there will be another noob such as myself sitting in. They seem to be a bit of a mixed bag. Normally, though, the bandleader is on piano and he's great. All I have to do is remember to stop and listen once lost. And trust my ear.

Wow! Turns out this is quite tricky, even on easy mode (slow temp, two bars on, two bars off).

It gets easier. Just stick with it. It’s a good tool if you have to solo without another chordal instrument.

He truly is a legend! Every time I play his songs, it feels like I’m connecting with something timeless and magical, even though I know I’ll never come close to his level of brilliance. Still, it’s such an inspiration to keep improving and enjoying the process. Lately, I’ve been able to dedicate so much more time to practicing my guitar skills, and it’s all thanks to the help I’ve been getting from academized.com/buy-thesis-online. They’ve taken a huge load off my plate, allowing me to focus on my passions while still staying on top of my academic responsibilities. It’s amazing how a little extra time can make all the difference in pursuing the things you truly love
