I lurk much more than post, and now the community gets a small tangible benefit. I can’t find the discussion, so feel free to link it if you know which one I’m talking about.

A couple of people talked about a couple of brands of phosphor bronze flats, so I took a flyer and bought a few packs. Having tried two brands on a couple of archtops and a flattop, I can unequivocally say that these are the worst strings I’ve ever tried.

They feel awful under the fingers. Nice and flat, but less tactile than any flats I’ve ever played, if that makes sense. They’re almost slippery to the touch. And they can’t seem to decide if they want to be mellow jazz flats or something else entirely. It’s like a half-hearted swing at something unidentifiable.

Free to you, posted anywhere in the Continental U.S. Get them out of my house. Please.

P.S. Some context: I’ve been a horn player forever, and I’ve only ever hated natural cane reeds this much. Mother Nature can produce garbage to magic, and I’m usually satisfied with playable. So, for me, the expectation with guitar strings is pretty low. I’m usually satisfied if the strings go on and I forget about them after that.

P.P.S. I’m never out to trash anyone or anything, particularly online, so I invite conflicting and contradicting words and experiences.

    Big ol' world.
    I sent you a note.
I like these strings, but they are certainly different.
I would be happy to help you achieve your objective.

“Sold” to the person who got me thinking about these in the first place!
