For those of you on Facebook, there is a new D'Angelico/D'Aquisto group that focuses only on the originals made by the masters. This might be another good place to inquire about buying a real/vintage D'Angelico.

As long as they keep out all Gibson players.
Have you ever had lunch with a Gibson player?
    It's a traumatizing experience!
Besides their table manners, they rarely use a napkin!

They let me in and I am a dyed in the wool Gibson player. The fact that I own 3 genuine DA's probably gave me a pass.

Have you seen this one on Reverb? I've never seen or played a D'Angelico but the finish and pickguard look to be in too good of a condition to be original.

I've found there's always lots of pictures around but way less videos where you can hear a D'Angelico in a full band situation.

If ya want to hear one in action this is a great video for that-

The guy is obviously a fine player, but I can't stand when people post live recordings of just a jazz guitar single-line solo without being able to hear the bass, because the harmony sounds ill-defined.
On the first few tunes, the pianist barely accompanies the guitarist, and since you don't hear the head played, it winds up sounding like just a bunch of notes.
The guitarist was playing some great Wes-type lines, octaves and chord work, but without clearly hearing the bass (or piano on some solos), it's hard to appreciate what's going on.

The guy sounded great on the rhythm changes tune, because the pianist decided to put down his drink, and actually accompany him, but recording a bass live must be very difficult to do well, when you don't have a mic on the bass amp.
    Just a pet peeve.

That piano player is pretty weird. I get the sense he's been playing so long he doesn't give a flying F anymore. When comping he will just bang out a few nonsense chords and call it a day.

I listened to it on headphones and was getting a reasonable amount of bass. I agree, more bass would be nice.

Yeah, that's the idea I got! He'd just play a chord once in a while that sounded like it had nothing to do with what's going on, and then go back to his drink.LOL!
It probably sounds better on headphones, but I just use the small speakers with the computer, and they don't give me any bass on recordings like this.
I'll try headphones. Great D'A, though!
