    1. Guitars and guitar related equipment only.

    2. Three For Sale posts per calendar month per member. You may list multiple items in a post. We will need to police ourselves on this rule. Please report abusers by clicking the red triangle icon

    3. Pick a prefix in the dropdown box, [For Sale] or [WTB] for example.

    4. Include the price in your post.

    5. If you are selling something, do not turn off the private message feature. It is highly recommended to make your email public on your profile as well. You may wish to set up a separate email account just for conducting such business. Please send all offers/inquiries to the seller via private message. Please do not conduct business/haggling as a public discussion within a thread.

    6. Jazzguitar.be assumes NO liability in the case of ANY business transactions between it's members. The site will not act as a third party for any monetary transactions. Be smart. Nobody's going to hold your hand if you get ripped off. If something feels "wrong" about a deal, it probably is.

    7. Any posts violating these rules will be deleted.

    8. When your item is sold, edit your post (Go Advanced) and put the "Sold" prefix or just delete your thread.

I ask everyone to be diligent in the reporting of posts that break the rules. The rules are subject to change if policies are frequently broken/abused. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

In addition, we ask everyone who's selling, trading, ... to choose a prefix when making his post:

    Selling Stuff? Read here first!-prefix-jpg

Also choose a post icon that indicates the regions you are willing to ship to:

That looks great. Thanks to our moderator for taking the added task of checking for complience with those new rules upon him - it means extra work.

If it turns out not to be sufficient, thare may be other ways. I think I have mentioned this British watch forum which has separated the common interest forum from the more "specialized". There is a separate "Sales Corner". There is "The Bear Pit" for those who wish to express strong opinions, political statements etc. And there is the "Boys Room", where "almost anything goes - use common sense". It actually works, and the watch oriented forum is kept clean and to the point. To post in those "specialized" fora, one has to have a minimum of posts in the watch oriented forum. Only the registered users can read those subfora. BTW, the "Boys Room" can be quite entertaining.

I wonder if it would have been better creating (if possible) a subforum titled something like "BUYING and SELLING" where ONLY private people can sell their own stuff without the threshold of 50 posts, which seems quite an arbitrary rule, although I understand the right motivations for doing that.

The only person who could do that is the site Admin, Dirk, who I'll be honest, can be a bit tough to get a hold of. I remember him saying in the past that we might be nearing our max on available resources here, so adding another subforum might be difficult to do.

Plus, that invites the "sellers only." I'd rather any transactions here be between members who have actually gotten to know each other a bit, not just faceless "craigslist like" deals...

Well handled throughout Jeff. Sounds like a very good way to go.

    A separate Buy/Sell might develop a downside:

Such a subforum might attract lots of general interest guitars vs. the fairly special guitars we see FS here (Soloway and Buscarino as of late are both great eye candy as well as FS).

All this happened in one day??? What the heck brought this on? It almost seems as if this blues 2 go guy is just pulling your chain to break your balls. Either way, I think it's a great new rule. I expressed a concern going back to the posting of that beautiful Buscarino. This rule would have prevented that post . . . or caused it to be deleted. That was his 1st post. Good call Jeff. For me it was not as much B2Go's attempt to sell his guitar but more his attacs on other posters which started right when Chris as the first asked for the price of the guitar in a humorous way. It was this "I own this thread so stay out and don't write anything I don't approve" attitude which was the most offensive. Especially from someone who had posted nothing but sales ads which he didn't pay a dime for. I may have had more patience with say you or Chris who has contributed so many positive, informative and uncommercial posts.

But of course this forum shouldn't turn into a marketplace, drowning the other content, not even if the sellers adhere to "smooth talking and an easy manner". So the new rules is a very good thing. It fair that I must contribute something before I can put things up for sale for free.

I think it's amazing that the forum got until now without this rule - it says a lot. So far I had only seen sales between regular forum members but it's a good idea to stop guys from signing in just to sell and went away - after all that's not the point of this forum.

Silly question: if you find a good deal online it's ok to make a post saying "hey guys look at this 175 at a great price"?

I agree . . . a long time coming . . . and as others before me have done, I commend you for doing it and for doing so with class.

I do, however, want to reiterate my suggestion that dealers be prohibited from posting items for sale, regardless of the number of posts they have made. The exception would be if a dealer or a dealer employee was a regular part of this community and selling something from his personal stash or collection. If a dealer has a guitar for sale (or amp) and it's shown or listed in his store or his web site, it should be eliminated. That would need to be an honor system type of self monitoring on the part of the dealers and/or their employees. It would unfair to have the responsibility of policing that fall on you or any of the other mods.

I've seen, on other forums, what can happen when dealers are permitted to post advertisements . . . because that's what they will become, advertisements, of their inventories in a forum . . . even in the for sale section of the forum. It becomes exploited as an avenue of free marketing.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with trying to regulate sales on a website. I'm a moderator on a large scale model car site and if we didn't have some rules about sales, we'd have a big mess on our hands. Rules don't restrict business, they keep it organized and fair. Great work, Mr. B.

Mr. Beaumont: Thanks. If it becomes possible at some point to allow more than one post per month, that would be a welcome revision. Nevertheless, these are great rules, clearly spelled out, and no doubt more than enough extra burden on you already. -- Thanks again.

FWIW, I like this idea very much, and I think it indirectly builds membership and general forum participation. But I understand - per the earlier comments - that it may be beyond available resources to implement additional sub-fora.

Seems like a fair and sensible policy to me. 50 posts? Well a guy can always contribute a bit or at least ask some questions, let everyone get to know him. And I agree - there are lots of places to buy and sell guitars/amps/gizmos. This is a great site thanks, in large part, to its moderators.

Very reasonable rules IMO.This forum is such a valuable resource for members of the community in many ways, but primarily jazz education. The ability to buy/sell within the community is nice too (heaven knows we love the gear), but if you're just stopping in because the ad space is free, keep going.
