2018 Custom Bryant Trenier Archtop Guitar

This is a 2018 custom Bryant Trenier guitar, meticulously crafted with high-quality materials and outstanding attention to detail. It features an X-braced European spruce top paired with beautifully figured maple back and sides, along with an ebony fretboard. The guitar has a 25 1/4” scale length and a comfortable 1 23/32” nut width, providing an excellent balance between playability and tonal clarity.

Equipped with Schaller tuners, this guitar has been kept in excellent condition, with no repairs needed and only very mild fretwear. It has had some professional modifications, including the installation of a Kent Armstrong pickup, endpin jack, and volume control on the pickguard, as well as a strap button on the heel. All work was completed by the renowned luthier Steve Grimes on Maui.

The guitar offers a rich, resonant tone with impressive acoustic volume, and sounds great when amplified. It’s perfect for jazz players or anyone who appreciates the nuances of a finely made archtop. It may have a minor ding or two here or there, but nothing significant. It could use some tweaking with the bridge to get the action and intonation set up perfectly, but I will leave that to the next owner. I ordered this directly from Bryant, and specified all the details. It has been a great, guitar, but I am more on an old swing and hot jazz player, and this guitar is just a bit different than what I need, so it never really got as much run as it warrants. Also includes the original case in good shape.

If you are interested, order quickly—I’ve been back and forth about selling this guitar and I may change my mind again!

    Yikes – what a beauty!

Was this built as an acoustic, with the pickup added later in Maui?

My Trenier (Aurelia #2) was built around the same time, and the color is very similar. It most certainly has the nuances of which you speak. GLWTS.

Yes, pickup and volume control were added after I took delivery here on Maui. Steve Grimes did the work. The pickup is a Kent Armstrong, which Steve said is the same ones that he puts on his guitars.

i would like to know as a swing player what is guitar does not have that is keeping you from using it? Granted these guitars are modern and speak different but what guitar is your favorite for swing and hot playing? I assume you are in Hawaii? I sure would like to give it a try.

It works okay for swing but has more of a warm/rich sound than a cut. I play it next to my 1930s 16" L-7, and while the Trenier sounds fuller and richer and most people would say better, the L-7 is more like what I hear in my head, if that makes sense.

I'm on Maui, and I would love to have anybody interested come check it out in person.
