There is a nice looking, reportedly a usa made telecaster up for bids on shopgoodwill. Its at $300 with a couple days to go.

Not to be confounded with US-made tele-goodwill ...

Yes, that's odd.... I have seen a couple of fake tele's on Good Will lately, e.g., Fender necks stuck on off-brand bodies, this may be one. At any rate, bidding is now at $780 with a few days to go, so even if legitimate it's no longer a potential bargain.

Yes, there are issues. I thought perhaps goodwill had the wrong model because of the truss rod and the rear slider.

This is that model from sweetwater.

This one from goodwill. The goodwill neck looks like a higher quality wood, which doesn't really mean much. Maybe it is a faked custom shop job with that serial number.

Yes, whatever it is, it's not an American Professional Telecaster. The headstock lettering looks off center (and it says "Custom" on it) and both it and the back neck plate don't match that model. Other phony Tele's I've seen also said "Custom" on the front headstock (with fake serial number decals), so that may be a consistent feature of the fakes.

The Fender Serial number reference site is under maintenance now so the number cannot be checked but I'd bet it will either be incorrect or "not found." -- Fender Guitars Serial Number Look Up

Yep. I tried looking it up before I posted it, but in was in maintenance then too. Now that I look at that rear slider, it does look like it was cut with scissors or something. I'll do better before posting those the next time.

If you like to collect fossils, there's a Japanese "Strad-O-Lin" semi-hollow guitar at Good Will now:

Opinions seem to vary widely on whether these are any good or not.

Here's one that was sold on Reverb -- Matsumoku 60’s Strad-O-Lin ES-335 copy

It went for $908. Maybe someone knew something more than we did. Or not. We'll likely never know.

My bet would be that someone got burned.

One of these counterfeit guitars (eBay link below) was being auctioned on Good Will and bidding had reached $2000 before the auction was cancelled because I told the seller it was a fake copy of the Fender Merle Haggard "Tuff Dog" custom model (which retails for over $7.5k), they had put the same serial number on many guitars (maybe all of them).

USA made tele goodwill-screenshot_20241008-135500_firefox-jpgI think you are right. I keep forgetting the custom shop slider has that chevron deal in it.

Fender's Serial Number Look Up web-page is back online (finally) and surprise, surprise, it returns "No results" for the serial number of this Tele ( US21000952 ).
