    Hi!

I'm no expert but I believe that the Byrdland produced by "Orville by Gibson" is a very, very rare guitar.

I see from the photos that it is very similar to my Epiphone Byrdland Elite (MIJ 2003, Pre-Elitist Series) which is also quite rare. I read that the guitars with the "Orville by Gibson" brand were built with the same woods and parts used by Gibson and that is why they "should" be the same as Gibsons made in the U.S.A.. Unfortunately, the import costs from the U.S.A. in Italy they are very high (about 30%) and therefore I can't think of buying it even if the selling price seems fair enough.

That seller must have bought somebody's vintage guitar collection because he's listed a lot of them in excellent condition recently.

    For example:
    1967 Gibson ES-330
    1959 Les Paul Standard

There is often a reason an item is rare, and the reason doesn't necessarily make it more valuable. The Orville was sort of an Edsel of the guitar world, and AFAIK never caught on, and not many were sold because nobody wanted them.

What was it about the guitar that folks didn't like, do you know?

I don't really know. Perhaps the price, and the fact that people weren't willing to spend that much money for an Asian-made guitar with a sem-Gibson name on the headstock. I remember the announcements about them becoming available, and then never heard another mumbling word about them.

That 5K price seems quite high compared to other Orville prices over the years.Anyone buying at that price best be prepared to take a loss if they decide to resell it.

Mike & Mike's shop finds great instruments, but invariably too high in $$, at least from the Reverb site.

I'm not sure it ought to be compared to other Orvilles. Byrdlands of any type are uncommon guitars and because of the scale length they are not really interchangeable with many other guitars. The Epiphone version sells in the mid 3k range. So 5K may be high but if a Byrdland is what you want and you don't want to pay an even higher premium for a Gibson, then your choices are very limited.

It is not a true Gibson guitar what more needs to be said? If you want it buy it. It sure has zero value to me I don't want it.

Well, someone bought it - after being on Reverb for only a week.

There is a buyer for anything, at the right price. And the 'right price' is highly variable.
